Canada, a new experiences in seminars WTF Taekwondo - Sport Poomse

On Friday January 28, 2011 Taekwondo Canada’s Vice President of Martial Arts, Master Tony Nippard and Poomsae Committee Chair, Master Seoungmin Rim conducted Canada’s first Sport Poomsae Seminar for Athletes, Coaches and Referees.

The seminar was conducted at Kang’s Taekwondo School in Winnipeg, Mantioba. Grandmaster Kang generously lent his school for the seminar which had over 20 participants from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Canadian Forces.

Many participants were impressed with the quality of the seminar. “This was a wonderful opportunity to learn and to improve poomsae techniques taught to my students” stated Warren Miller of Kim’s Taekwondo in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

A total of 19 referees were certified in the N-1 and N-3 categories. Three coaches were also certified in Sport Poomsae. At the end of the day, participant Leanne Truong was presented with the Outstanding Participant Award.

A special thank you goes to Grandmaster Joo Won Kang and Master King Yong for volunteering their time and school to assist with the seminar. It would not have been a success without them.
Taekwondo Canada is also planning more Sport Poomsae seminars in the near future. Details will be available on Taekwondo Canada’s website.
